Become a Part of the
Johnson Audiology Patient Family
Welcome to Your
New Audiology Home
At Johnson Audiology, we believe great hearing care starts with relationships. If your longtime audiologist has retired or you’re simply looking for a new provider, we want you to feel right at home. We’ve proudly served our communities in Murfreesboro, Franklin, Chattanooga, Hixson and Cartersville for years, helping people hear and connect with those they love since 2009.
When you become our patient, you’re welcomed into a practice built around personalized care, trusted expertise and long-term relationships. And because our Doctors of Audiology collaborate across our five locations, you aren’t simply gaining a new audiologist—you’re gaining an entire team dedicated to helping you hear your best.

Can I keep my current hearing aids if I switch audiologists?
Possibly—and our first goal is to understand what you’re currently using and determine how we can best help you hear.
If you already wear hearing aids, bring them with you to your appointment. Our audiologists can evaluate your current technology and consider factors such as the age and condition of the devices, the manufacturer, their programming capabilities and how well they are meeting your hearing needs. In some cases, we may be able to continue working with your existing hearing aids. In others, the technology may have limitations that affect the services or adjustments we can provide.
Most importantly, switching audiologists doesn’t automatically mean you need new hearing aids. We’ll start by evaluating what you have, listening to your concerns and understanding your hearing goals.
Our priority is to help you find the best path forward so you have technology that supports optimal hearing and communication in your everyday life.

Why should I choose a Doctor of Audiology rather than a hearing instrument specialist or other technician?
Not everyone who fits or sells hearing aids has the same level of education and clinical training. That's why it's important to understand the credentials of the person caring for your hearing.
A Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) completes years of advanced university and doctoral-level education along with extensive supervised clinical training. That education encompasses much more than hearing aids. Audiologists are trained in the evaluation of hearing, hearing disorders, tinnitus, balance, hearing technology, treatment options and strategies for helping people communicate more effectively.
At Johnson Audiology, we only hire Doctors of Audiology. We believe your hearing is an important part of your overall health and quality of life and deserves that level of expertise.
And you benefit from more than one doctor's knowledge. Our 12 audiologists collaborate and share their expertise across our five offices.
You have your audiologist, with a whole team helping you hear.

How do I transfer my hearing care to Johnson Audiology?
Making the switch is easy. Start by contacting the Johnson Audiology office location that is most convenient for you and scheduling an appointment. Our team can help explain what information may be useful to have from your previous provider and answer questions about the transition.
If you have copies of previous hearing tests, hearing aid information or other relevant records, those can give your new audiologist helpful background about your hearing history. But don’t let not having everything in hand keep you from calling us.
We’ll take the time to learn about your hearing, your current devices, your lifestyle and the situations where you would like to hear better. Most important, you won’t have to navigate the transition alone. Our team will help you get established so Johnson Audiology can become your new home for ongoing hearing care.

What happens during my first appointment?
Your first appointment is our opportunity to get to know you—and for you to get to know us.
We’ll begin by talking about your hearing history, any concerns you’ve noticed and the situations where hearing has become more difficult. If you already wear hearing aids, bring them with you so we can learn about your current technology and discuss how well it is meeting your needs.
Depending on the reason for your visit, your audiologist may recommend a comprehensive hearing evaluation to better understand your current hearing. From there, we’ll discuss the results, answer your questions and talk through appropriate next steps.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach at Johnson Audiology. Our goal is to understand what matters to you and develop a hearing care plan that fits your individual needs, lifestyle and goals.
And yes—questions are always welcome!

Can Johnson Audiology service hearing aids purchased elsewhere?
In many cases, yes. You don’t have to have originally purchased your hearing aids from Johnson Audiology to ask us for help with them.
Johnson Audiology works with all six major hearing aid manufacturers, which allows our audiologists to work with a broad range of hearing technology. Depending on your hearing aids' manufacturer, model, age and condition, we may be able to evaluate them, make programming adjustments, provide maintenance or help troubleshoot issues.
We’ll also want to make sure your hearing aids are still appropriately programmed for your current hearing. Hearing can change over time, which means devices that were once working well may need adjustments.
If you’re unsure whether we can work with your particular hearing aids, give us a call. Our team can determine what options are available and help you decide on the best next step.

Do I need my previous records?
Previous hearing records can be very helpful, but don't worry if you don't have everything readily available.
If possible, bring or request copies of your most recent hearing test and information about any hearing aids or other hearing devices you currently use. Previous test results allow your audiologist to compare your hearing over time and may provide useful information about changes that have occurred.
If you wear hearing aids, information about the manufacturer, model, purchase date, warranty or previous programming can also be helpful. If you don't have that information, simply bring your hearing aids with you.
Most important, don't let missing records prevent you from establishing care with a new audiologist. Our team can talk with you about what information would be useful and help you determine the next steps for beginning your care with Johnson Audiology.

Will my insurance cover hearing care?
Hearing healthcare benefits vary considerably from one insurance plan to another, which is why Johnson Audiology has a team dedicated to helping patients understand their coverage.
We work with more than 75 insurance companies and hearing programs, and our in-house insurance specialists can verify your available benefits before you arrive for your first appointment. That means you can have a better understanding of your coverage and what to expect.
Depending on your plan, benefits may be available for hearing evaluations, hearing aids or other hearing healthcare services. Our team will help you understand the benefits available through your particular plan and how they may apply to your care.
Insurance can be confusing. We don't expect you to figure it out by yourself. Helping you navigate your hearing benefits is simply another part of how we care for our patients--how we will care for you.

What hearing aid brands does Johnson Audiology work with?
There are more hearing aid options available today than ever before, which can make choosing the right technology feel overwhelming. At Johnson Audiology, we work with leading hearing aid manufacturers known for their innovation, reliability and commitment to hearing healthcare.
Our audiologists have access to technology from Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Starkey, Signia and Widex*.
Why does having access to multiple brands matter? Because there is no single hearing aid that's best for everyone. Your hearing needs, lifestyle, listening environments, technology preferences and personal goals all play a role in determining which technology may be the right fit.
Rather than starting with a particular brand, we start with you. Our audiologists can consider options across these trusted brands and provide professional guidance based on what can help you achieve your best possible hearing outcome.
*Signia and Widex are distinct hearing aid brands within the same parent company, WS Audiology.
